Established in 1999, Jewish Voices is an annual event with readings by prominent Jewish poets and writers who share from their personal collections in OJMCHE's auditorium.

Bruce Barton is the author of The Book of Baruchio, a collection of poems inspired by his time in an ongoing Jewish prayer circle and study group. The Last Poems of the 20th Century features his poems from the 1990’sHe is also co-author of A Path Through Stone: A Cycle of Poems.  Upcoming books include Completion Before Perfection: Collected Poems 2000-2010, plus a book of his original short sayings

 

David D. Levine is the author of Arabella of Mars (Tor 2016) and over fifty SF and fantasy stories. His story "Tk'Tk'Tk" won the Hugo, and he has been shortlisted for awards including the Hugo, Nebula, Campbell, and Sturgeon. His stories have appeared in Asimov'sAnalogF&SF, multiple Year's Best anthologies, and his award-winning collection Space Magichttp://www.daviddlevine.com

 

Alicia Jo Rabins is a poet, composer, musician, and Torah scholar. Alicia was born in Oregon and grew up in Baltimore and New York City.  Her book, Divinity School, won the 2015 American Poetry Review/Honickman First Book Prize and is published by APR/Copper Canyon.  She teaches ancient Jewish texts to children and adults, performs internationally as a violinist and singer, and is the creator of Girls in Trouble, an indie-folk song cycle about women in Torah. Alicia holds a MFA from Warren Wilson College and a MA from the Jewish Theological Seminary. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and two young children. 

 

Willa Schneberg has authored five poetry collections, including In the Margins of the World, awarded the Oregon Book Award, and the letterpress chapbook The Books of Esther, produced in conjunction with her 2012 OJMCHE exhibition. Her most recent release is Rending the Garment, a series of linked poems designed to explore the life and times of one Jewish-American family. With the museum’s director, Judy Margles, Willa originated the annual reading of Oregon Jewish Writers, now in its 16th year. Last summer, she was in residence at Art Kibbutz in New York City, the only Jewish-centric artist colony in the world.

 

Amy Schutzer is an award winning poet and fiction writer who makes her home in Portland, Oregon. Her first novel, Undertow was published by Calyx Books in 2000. Her second novel, Spheres of Disturbance, was published in spring 2014 by Arktoi Books/Red Hen Press, and was a finalist for an Oregon Book Award. Debra Gordon Zaslow is an acclaimed storyteller and author of Bringing Bubbe Home, a Memoir of Letting Go Through Love and Death. Her CD, Return Again: Jewish Stories of Renewal and Transformation, features Jewish folktales combined with personal narrative. She travels nationwide performing and leading workshops in storytelling and memoir writing. Zaslow holds an MFA in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She teaches storytelling at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, leads memoir-writing courses, and runs a “Maggid” training program with her husband, Rabbi David Zaslow.
