Portlanders See Lives Touched on Mission

Several Portlanders were recently able to join a United Jewish Communities’ mission to the former Soviet Union and Israel. There, they saw firsthand how the money that is raised through the Federation's annual campaign touches thousands of individual lives each day and aids with Jewish renewal in compromised areas. Imagine being able to say that "seeing Israel through the eyes of your children was magical," as one mother from Minneapolis recently recalled after her family's mission to Israel. "As the trip unfolded, we watched our children gradually grasp the concept of living on a Jewish calendar, on the stage of Jewish history. For 11 days, they felt what it’s like to be part of the majority... They say that one does not “go to” Jerusalem, one “returns” there.
