The Jewish Volunteer Corps, a program of the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland, in partnership with Moishe Pod West, invites young adults in Portland to bake challah for local Holocaust survivors. In honor of Holocaust Survivors Day on June 4, come together to learn the Jewish tradition of challah baking and pay respect to the community of Holocaust Survivors in Portland. The challah baked at this event will be donated to JFCS to distribute at their Holocaust Survivors Day event.

Volunteers will learn to mix challah dough and while waiting for it to rise, enjoy snacks and engage in Jewish text study surrounding Shavuot. Once the dough has risen, volunteers will learn to braid the dough. Participants can expect braiding to be done and the event to close at 7:30 PM. Any volunteers who would like to stay through the completion of the challah baking and to assist with clean up are welcome to do so! Challah is estimated to be done baking at 9 PM.

Volunteers at this event will also receive a special thank you from OneTable, increased nourishment for Shabbat dinners hosted on Friday, June 6. What is nourishment? A per RSVP stipend to help alleviate the financial burden of hosting a Shabbat dinner in your home, or a public location of your choosing. Learn more and post your Shabbat dinner at https://dinners.onetable.org/log-in
