Congregation Beth Israel mourns the loss of Susan "Susy" Hammel, who passed away on Aug. 23, 2024 at the age of 84. Susy is survived by her two daughters, Marci Hammel & Katrina Gaynor and their families, and her cousin, Marilyn Penner Behrendt.

Susy was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Hammel, z”l; mother and father, Sam & Sadie Kaufman, z”l, her in-laws, Goldie & Sam Hammel, z”l; her sister, Nancy Green, z”l; her great grandmother, Runi Hyman, z”l, and her aunts and uncles, Al Hyman, z”l, Natie Shapiro, z”l, Dinah Shapiro, z”l, and Willy Shapiro, z”l.

She lived a life full of fun, love and laughter, surrounded by friends and family. She will be greatly missed.

A funeral service was held on Monday, Aug. 26 at Congregation Beth Israel Cemetery.

Donations can be made to the following organizations that were close to her heart: Alzheimer's Association of Oregon & SW Washington, Autism Society of Oregon, Mastocytosis Society, City of Hope, Congregation Beth Israel.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
