January is Radon Action Month

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer deaths (the first is smoking) in the United States. Radon levels tend to be higher in Portland and Vancouver than other parts of the country. In certain areas in the Portland/Vancouver area, one in four houses has excessive radon levels.​

We want you to know that a big part of “living green” is breathing clean, healthy indoor air. One of the best ways to protect our families’ health is to get radon gas out of our homes. It’s the environmentally responsible choice that can help reduce lung cancer. Since radon enters homes from under the ground, living healthy and green starts from the ground up. By kicking radon out of homes every family can have safer, healthier air to breathe.

The Jewish Federation along with the MJCC are hosting two community workshops led by expert, Dr. Scott Burns, who will provide guidance on testing and steps to fix homes that test positive for radon.
