The Portland Chamber Orchestra and the Choral Arts Ensemble of Portland will offer their first ecumenical holiday concert in a performance of both the Christmas portion of Handel’s “Messiah” and selections from the oratorio “Judas Maccabaeus“. The Hillsboro performance also features the Hillsboro Community Youth Choir.

“Messiah” is one of Christendom’s most hallowed works and “Judas Maccabeus” is a work based on the story of Chanukah. In its day, ”Judas Maccabaeus” was one of the most popular of Handel’s Oratorios. Handel’s score mingles passionate mourning, pious gratitude to the heroic defenders of the nation, triumphant hymns and fanfares.

There will be four peformances at various locations. St. Henry Catholic Church, Gresham - St. Matthew Catholic Church, Hillsboro - St. Andrew Catholic Church, Portland and Lewis & Clark College, Portland
